Bohinc On song With Third In Powerpole

A cross wind and strong current did not appear to phase the leading teams as they completed the PowerPole in speeds of around 110mph in preparation for tomorrow’s third round of the Powerboat P1 World Championship when 14 boats will line up on the Bosphorus for the first leg of the Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea.

The World Championship leaders, SNAV OSG, piloted by Hannes Bohinc and Giovanni Carpitella took third place with a cumulative time after two runs of 2 minutes 9.73 seconds, 2 seconds behind the leaders, Joe Sgro and Nigel Hook in the US Outerlimits powerboat.

With a circuit design that includes a longer than usual start straight before the first turn, it is unlikely that the starting positions for the weekend’s racing will provide any significant advantage although it does offer an indication of outright speed of the competing craft.

For the 2005 World Champion, Austrian Hannes Bohinc, today’s form is consistent with his pre-event predictions.

“We knew the Cigarette and US Outerlimits teams would be quick. It is an indication and nothing more; The Grand Prix is not decided over just one lap.”
