Bohinc and Cagiano win in Sweden!

General News 09 August 2009 - SNAV OSG, piloted by Hannes Bohinc and Giancarlo Cangiano, secured its fourth win of the season in today’s closely fought sprint race, moving the OSG Team a step closer to its Powerboat P1 world championship ambitions.

Bohinc and Cangiano had trailed the US entry, Lucas Oil Outerlimit, driven by Joe Sgro and Nigel Hook for two thirds of the race, the decisive move was made with just three laps remaining.

In flat waters, the action was fast and furious and as predicted, the first boat to the first turn would secure a strong advantage.

That boat was Lucas Oil Outerlimits, with SNAV OSG , Cranefields Wine and Cigarette Smash Poker, fighting for second place.

For the next four laps a 15 second advantage was maintained over SNAV OSG and Cranefields Wines until Bohinc and Cangiano in the Mercury-powered Outerlimits found their form and started to reel in the leaders with a masterclass performance.

The deed was finally done on the seventh of 10 laps.

The Cigarette Smash Poker of Luca Fendi and Matteo Nicolini crossed the line in second place with Lucas Oils Outerlimits third.

Championship leaders, Silverline, piloted by Drew Langdon and Jan Falkowski, finished one lap down in fourth place.

The Championship lead with three races remaining has narrowed to 92 points with SNAV OSG and Cigarette Smash Poker consolidating second and third respectively.

The championship still remains a four boat race as the focus switches to tomorrows 73 nautical mile endurance race.

Hannes Bohinc, Team Driver, OSG Racing:

“It was good to be back but not quite the start we wanted.

We were sleeping but once we woke up we drove very hard, clawing back the lead a metre at a time. By the time we past Lucas Oil we were flying. There was a great understanding in the boat today, Giancarlo was strong and we achieved our goal -the championship remains in our sights.”

Giancarlo Cangiano, Team owner and throttleman, OSG Racing

“Simply perfect! The Outerlimits boat is outstanding and the engines performed faultlessly. This was an excellent team effort, everyone played their part and Hannes demonstrated that he has the heart of a lion.”
